As an AVP/VP Controls Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our organization adheres to laws, rules, and regulations within the financial services sector. Your expertise in operational risk, legal compliance, and governance will be instrumental in driving the control strategy and framework in alignment with Group Policies. Your ability to lead teams, manage senior stakeholders, and make complex decisions will be essential in the successful execution of this role.

Responsibilities: 

• Utilize your extensive experience in financial services control environments subject to laws, rules, and regulations such as the Securities Act 1934, Financial Crime, and Banking Regulations.
• Leverage your background in Legal, Operational Risk, or Regulatory Compliance roles and associated governance, policies, and risk management activities.
• Apply your expertise in Operational Risk and issues management, along with a deep understanding of Control frameworks.
• Lead the execution of the control strategy and framework, ensuring alignment with Group Policies and regulatory requirements.
• Key outputs will include:
  • Procedure and control mappings to ensure compliance and risk management.
  • Comprehensive gap analysis reports for proactive risk mitigation.
  • Thoughtfully crafted remediation plans to address identified issues.

Essential skills & experience required:

• Bachelor’s degree (Ideally Banking, Finance, Commerce or similar field)
• Relevant industry experience (ideally within banking, financial services)
• Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in a similar role, and a good understanding of financial regulations.
• A proven track record in managing risk and ensuring project outcomes align with expectations.
• Proficiency in preparing and facilitating workshops to drive collaboration and problem-solving.
• Experience in managing senior multi-jurisdictional stakeholders within complex organizations.
• Demonstrated ability to create procedure and control mappings, perform gap analysis, develop remediation plans, and manage disputes effectively.
• Proven ability to develop and enhance control processes, as well as the ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks.
